Artist / Woodworker Shawn O'Malley grew-up in the Florida
gulf-coast town of Sarasota. Shawn married his elementary school sweet-heart, Mandy Jane, and will be celebrating
their 16th anniversary next spring. They have 2 sons, Jack (11) and Liam (7), who spend almost as much time "in
the shop" as dad does! Shawn is proud of the fact that every table, bench or other piece of art he creates has
not only his fingerprints on it, but that of his sons' as well. It was in this way that Shawn himself learned
how to work with wood and metal from his grandfather, Frank Ross.
Frank, or "Pop" to family and
friends, was the living example of Southern work-ethic & ingenuity, appreciation for your history, as well as respect
for a job done well. It was these attributes which Shawn incorporates into every piece he creates. While Pop passed
away in 2004, Shawn is proud to be able to pass on Frank's legacy and ideals to his great-grandson's
and generations still to come.
Today, Shawn is continuing a tradition, working in "Pop's Shop"
to create one-of-a-kind furniture and art which incorporates traditional and time-tested construction with salvaged and recycled
materials.
